Resembling a James Bond villian's lair, the Songjiang Hotel looks to be a feat of both design and construction. Proving that they won't be outdone by the 'super hotels' being constructed in the Middle East and America, China have pulled this astounding building out their bag that is guaranteed to wow people worldwide.
Construction has just recently started on the hotel that is built into the side of a 100m deep, water filled quarry. Designed by DesignAtkins and situated inside the Shanghai Sheshan National Holiday Resort area, the 21-floor hotel will have two underwater levels, 17 floors between the surface of the water and ground-level and two floors above the rock face.
Not just for those seeking a taste of luxury (or world domination), the hotel will also incorporate conference facilities for up to 1,000 people including a banqueting centre, restaurants, cafés and sports facilities.
Not just that but it'll be run by renewable sources of energy with the design incorporating solar roofing as well as geothermal energy for the lower levels.
Two underwater levels will house a restaurant and guest rooms facing a ten-metre deep aquarium. The lowest level of the hotel will contain a leisure complex with a swimming pool and water-based sports. All the 400 bedrooms will have balconies with views of a waterfall opposite the hotel.
And it doesn't end there... for the more daring guests, an extreme sports centre will feature rock climbing and bungee jumping, all done over the quarry's edge and accessed by special lifts from the water level of the hotel.
By now, I'm sure you've realised this story has very little to do with US Infrastructure, but you can't help but look at this building and be impressed by the design.
